Buying a Used RV? How to Avoid Buying a Lemon?
Salvage Trucks January 25th, 2010Five Signs a Used RV May Be a Lemon
So if you are looking for cheap motorhomes or cheap RVs for sales you can find a great deal. Below however, are 5 things that you should avoid at all costs.
1. Broken appliances and fixtures. If the faucets, toilet, fridge, lights, etc. don’t work, it may mean the RV has been lived in for an extended time and could have additional problems from heavy use that are not obvious at first. Alternately, it could also mean poor quality in the original materials and construction of the motorhome. This also can mean large problems down the road. However, it may just be due to normal use. All used RVs need to have a few minor repairs.
2. Worn-out upholstery. If the fabric looks shabby and has thin spots or holes, it may be another sign that the RV was lived in for a long time and is better to avoid.

3. Higher mileage and/or generator use. If they’re more than anticipated, especially if the RV is only a year or two old, it can mean the RV was heavily used or lived in and may have other problems not normally seen in more typical, seasonally-enjoyed motorhomes.
4. Major systems are faulty or functioning poorly. If the generator, air-conditioner, water system or furnace are not working as they should or don’t seem in good condition, the RV may not be well made, which means more things could begin to fall apart or stop working soon. It can also mean that the routine maintenance was skipped and major problems may have already started.
5. There is water damage. Even if the water damage seems minor, just a little bit of mold and mildew, it can be greater than it first appears and more costly to fix. Ceilings that sag and wall-paneling that is soft are two other signs of water damage and could indicate that it is more extensive than it appears. It is a good idea to avoid buying any RVs that show signs of water damage.
