Many people naturally assume that a wrecked junk car has pretty much been stripped of all its value. The reality of the situation is that they can actually be quite valuable. If a car is truly junk in such a way that it's ready to be turned into scrap metal, then it has no more value. You might just as well purchase a new car when all of the parts are broken. In case a car only has a lot of damage, it may still be repaired. After fixing it, you can either choose to drive it or sell it off for a profit.

Insurance companies are usually the ones to judge a banged up car's worth. If they judge the car's repair would cost more than the car itself, it's going to be listed as a salvage car. The value of the car will drop a whole lot because of this. However, just because an insurance company thinks the car is worthless, doesn't mean everybody has to agree. People that repair cars as a hobby will still think the car has value.

I myself am a fan of rebuilding wrecked cars. Salvage cars have great value for me for this reason. My car fixing hobby is a very cheap one due to the fact that salvage vehicles don't cost much. Most cars I repair can be driven again once I'm done with them. I like to drive the salvage cars that I've repaired, until my eye catches a new one. Then, I sell the fixed car to somebody else and start working on my latest salvage acquisition.

In case you want to give car fixing as a hobby a shot, please consider the following advice. Not all salvage cars are of equal value. Some of these cars are closer to being complete junk than they are to salvage status. A salvage car has to have at least a few components that are still working, in order for this car to be useful for you. Money is a terrible thing to waste, even though this is a very low cost hobby. This becomes more important if you intend to turn a profit selling your fixed vehicles. If you curb your spendings, you're going to have larger profit margins.
