Foreclosed trailers have become much more prevalent as the economy continues to falter.  As more and more people have lost their jobs or suffered pay decreases, they have been unable to maintain payments on their loans. If someone goes long enough without paying a loan, that loan defaults and, if the loan was backed with property, that property is repossessed by the bank.   Repossession alone does not deny someone ownership, and in fact, if the loan is paid in full, then the original buyer can once again take possession of the property.  However, once the foreclosure process is complete, the bank owns the property.

Once a bank owns property, such as a trailer or other RV, it then has to pay storage fees on that vehicle. Due to the size of many trailers, these fees can be quite significant.  Furthermore, as long as the trailer remains the property of the bank, the remaining balance on the original loan is an amount that the bank is unable to loan out, reducing its income generating power.  Therefore, offloading that trailer as soon as possible becomes a real incentive for banks, and they tend to sell foreclosed trailers at a significantly reduced rate – sometimes as low as 25% of the original price.

If you are in the market for a trailer, then you may be able to take advantage of a rv trailer auctions .  In many cases, you can find these trailers in excellent condition because the original owner had very little time or money to put it to use before the loan defaulted.  To find these trailers, there are few places you can look.  You can begin with a dealer who specializes in foreclosed trailers; however, be aware that all dealers will add a 30-40% markup over their purchase price.  Though still cheaper than a new trailer, you can get a better deal by seeking out trailer auctions and bidding on a foreclosed trailer yourself. If you hit the right auction at the right time, you just might be able to find that perfect trailer at a fraction of its original price.
